52 Week Challenge – Week 10

Another day photographing the Escape Velocity Spring Series, this time in Ft. Langley. The infamous Snake climb was on tap today and was the focal point of my coverage. This rider is looking at the climb just ahead as he rounds the switchback.

52 Week Challenge – Week 9

Escape Velocity Spring Series began on Saturday, typically the start of the  road racing season in the Lower Mainland. A three-person breakaway for a large portion of the Elite Men’s race highlighted the action.

52 Week Challenge – Week 8

Snow in Vancouver, quite unusual. Picked a bright sunny afternoon and headed to Camosun Bog at the edge of Pacific Spirit Park with my X-T1 and Rokinon 12mm to get more comfortable with the manual focus of this lens. You’d think it would be pretty simple with a 12mm lens! The image below is the trail to the bog.

52 Week Challenge – Week 5

The weather conspired against me this week, so this image pretty much sums up my experience, shooting a landscape through the windshield of the car. Classic Chrome film simulation and edited in Lightroom.

52 Week Challenge – Week 4

I hadn’t really shot anything this week that I felt was worth posting. I’d had this idea of shooting abstract reflections on a wet street for weeks now, so here at the very end of my shooting week are some samples. These are all jpegs using the Velvia film simulation and shot with Fujifilm X-T1 | 50-140 f2.8 R LM OIS WR

My 52 Week Challenge

I haven’t been shooting enough, period. Yes, I take plenty of photos on my vacations and at cycling events, but there are periods of time where I’ve shot nothing. Lately I’ve read some blogs notably by Patrick La Roque, Olaf Sztaba, Thomasz Trzebiatowski (Fujilove) and Ian MacDonald and they have collectively inspired me to get out and shoot every week. I thought about a 365 day challenge but decided on “baby steps”. I live in a beautiful city with visual opportunities at every turn, and as Patrick La Roque and many others have proven, one can find inspiration very close to home. So, here goes:

Week 1 – A Pile of Rocks

I found this little stream amongst a jumble of rocks  The driftwood logs tossed on the rocks during a winter storm frame the stream as it makes it’s way to the sea.  See image below:
